Abstract

In this paper, we describe a recognition technique of electric poles and electric wires which arc drawn on a power distribution facility map. The map represents power supply facility from substation to consumer. The proposed technique is based on circularity and connectivity, and consisted of four phases. One extracts a power distribution facility image using threshold value which is obtained by histogram analysis. Another generates a thinned image which is obtained by applying a thinning operator. A third extracts electric pole candidates based on circularity. The circularity is calculated on the search area which is defined at a branch points on the thinned image A fourth recognizes electric wires based on connectivity between two branch points, and then confirms electric pole candidate to electric pole which has at least an electric wire. The proposed technique is tested on 30 power distribution facility maps, which arc randomly sampled, and the result is presented.
